THE ASK
New York City’s Ground Zero desperately needed multiple structures in place in order to run disaster relief efforts. With winter approaching, it was also important that these structures could be delivered and erected quickly, and that they featured heat and climate control, ample space and a bright environment for recovery workers.
HOW SPRUNG DELIVERED
Sprung quickly delivered several structures, the most prominent being a high-performance, 31,000-square-foot tensioned membrane structure that included a large space for multiple uses, such as food services, meal and rest areas, washing and showering facilities, a running lab, changing and training facilities, search areas and a meeting area. This sizeable structure, affectionately dubbed the “Taj Mahal,” protected emergency responders from the elements for months while they handled the devastating aftermath of 9/11.
