THE ASK

Rockefeller University needed swing laboratory space during campus renovations.

HOW SPRUNG DELIVERED

Part of the philosophical approach at Rockefeller University is encouraging scientists from different departments to collaborate on research, which would be much more difficult if all the university’s labs were not on the same campus. A fully insulated 60’ x 132’ “Signature Series” Sprung structure allowed the university to keep its laboratories on campus rather than renting space in another part of the city.

A concrete pad was poured onto a seldom-used tennis court on campus, and construction of the Sprung structure began in December 2006. The Sprung portion of the project was completed by January 2007 and features five lab/private offices, 104 cubicles and a mezzanine level that houses two conference rooms, a large assembly space, a media room and storage. Restroom facilities are connected to the structure via a Sprung corridor.
