THE ASK
The U.S. Air Force was in need of two hangars at an undisclosed location in the Middle East to house its new RQ-4 Global Hawks, which are high-altitude, remotely piloted surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft. Although the Air Force already had two large, uninsulated fabric hangars on-site, those structures often became too warm inside, leading to issues with preflight avionics tests. The existing structures were also too small to host the new Global Hawks, and they lacked a reliable hangar door system.
Wanting much more functional, durable and adaptable hangar space, the Air Force turned to Sprung for a solution.
HOW SPRUNG DELIVERED
Sprung designed and delivered two 160’ x 240’ hangars, each with a 150-foot-wide, vertical-lifting Megadoor. The spacious, clear-span structures also feature Sprung’s high-performance insulation for optimal heating and cooling efficiency, as well as Tedlar-coated exterior membranes that carry a 25-year pro-rata warranty.
