THE ASK
Kutztown University needed additional swing space while undergoing a renovation and expansion of its existing dining facility. Initially, stakeholders at the university looked into modular trailers as a solution, but after comparing this option to the exterior aesthetics, tall peaks and airy interior of a Sprung structure, they entrusted Sprung to deliver a space that would support their operational needs while integrating seamlessly with the look and feel of the rest of the campus.
HOW SPRUNG DELIVERED
Sprung designed and delivered a fully insulated, 30’ x 75’ structure that blends in beautifully with KU’s existing campus facilities thanks in part to its Dupont Tedlar Concord Cream and Brownstone Red exterior membrane.
Initially, the structure served as a sandwich shop, but four years after its arrival, once renovations to the university’s dining facility were complete, it was reconfigured to serve as a small theater, and it remains a permanent fixture on campus. Not only does the structure’s eight-inch fiberglass insulation provide excellent acoustics for a theater application, the clear-span design allows for easy modification should KU require the building for different applications in the future.
