THE ASK
In 2008, when staff at Fort Riley needed space for a Soldier Recovery Unit, they decided to dismantle and relocate one of the four Sprung helicopter hangar structures that had been designed and built for their base a couple of years earlier. Because Sprung structures are engineered for easy relocation, moving one of Fort Riley’s existing structures was by far the best choice in terms of efficiency and cost-savings.
HOW SPRUNG DELIVERED
Working with various stakeholders, Sprung team members helped to disassemble one of Fort Riley’s existing hangar structures and then move and reassemble it near the base’s hospital to serve as its Soldier Recovery Unit. Featuring Sprung’s signature clear-span design, as well daylight panels in its peak, the rebuilt structure is fully insulated and provides a bright and welcoming atmosphere for wounded or ailing soldiers in need of rehabilitative treatment. On occasion, the structure also serves as a place to hold large meetings.
