THE ASK
Over the last 15 years, GCU has embarked on a large expansion, adding new classrooms, laboratories, athletic facilities and various other student amenities to its busy campus. Among these planned new additions was four-story building that would provide more dining space for students and staff.
While the need for additional dining space on campus was high, speedy completion of the four-story facility was challenging due to the number of other construction projects already underway. So, stakeholders determined that the best course of action was to build the first floor of the new dining building, then house it under a Sprung structure for interim use. While other solutions were considered, the Sprung structure was chosen for its creative design, speed of construction and lower overall project costs.
HOW SPRUNG DELIVERED
The Sprung structure was chosen due in part to creative design, speed of construction and lower overall project costs. A 80’ wide x 198’ long Sprung structure complete with 8” insulation package, glazing wall, translucent daylight panels and custom purple architectural membrane.
Thunder Alley offers three different choices of cuisine, a store for sundries and a complete bowling alley. Sprung supplied a custom purple architectural membrane to match Grand Canyon University colors.
